Mall Listening

The noise inside the mall where I work is sometimes a distraction when it comes to hearing a customer. The music is blaring, people are walking by talking, kids are screaming, and teens are playing games. To listen to a customer in the midst of a crowd takes concentration and effort. Listening to God's voice is that way - the noise of the world's voices overwhelm me at times and His voice gets lost in the confusion. They tell me to operate in fear - "You're going to lose your job". They tell me that there is no hope - "No church will ever hire you again, you're a failure". But when I stretch my ear to listen daily I'm reminded of God's voice that softly reassures me of His love and care and plan for my life. Everyday is a day to be "swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to be angry". The voices of the world create fear and anger. God's voice creates peace and rest based upon trust. His voice is always there but it takes awareness and concentration to listen and truly hear. That voice reassures me of His everyday presence and activity in my life. Whichever one I listen to the most will affect my outlook on my life and future. Speak God and I will listen.
